PODIUM-1 study

We are looking for volunteers to assist in the up and coming PODIUM-1 study (Post-Operative Delirium Investigation in the United KingdoM), that is scheduled to start patient recruitment and data collection in August 2017.

This initial study aims to look at patients over the age of 65 years having major elective surgery and determine the incidence of post-operative delirium.

Sites planned to participate in the study include RVI, Freeman, James Cook, Sunderland and Northumbria. If you are based at any of these hospitals from August and are keen to get involved then please contact either:

Iain McCullagh (Consultant Anaesthetist and Intensivist, Freeman Hospital, Lead Investigator) – iain.mccullagh@nuth.nhs.uk

Mark Callaghan (ST7 Anaesthesia, Trainee research network collaborator) – mcallaghan@doctors.org.uk

All trainees wanting to get involved will need to compete Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training, which is an online e-learning module that takes a few hours to complete. It helps ensure that all research is conducted to the same international ethical, scientific and practical standard.
